What is Korean Bridal Makeup?

The Korean bridal makeup look is one of Asia’s top beauty trends, and Singapore is no exception.

To share with you more about Korean bridal makeup, we have Julie Kim, who is our makeup artist from Korea to share her knowledge. She has been residing in Singapore for around 6 years now and has a good understanding of Singapore’s culture to incorporate her Korean bridal makeup knowledge to suit every bride.

1. What is Korean bridal makeup in general?

Korean bridal makeup consists of very natural looks. Although trends come and go every time, dewy skin forms the foundation in Korean makeup. One of the hottest trends now would be a single, matte lip colour in shades like coral or dusty rose!

2. Since dewy skin is an important base, is there a strong emphasis on skincare to prep for Korean bridal makeup?

Yes, focusing on skincare is a crucial first step to achieve dewy skin especially in Singapore’s humid weather. Otherwise, your complexion might show signs of dullness. Skin should be healthy and moisturized to get a radiant, dewy complexion. Before doing Korean makeup looks on my clients, I make sure that I focus more time on their skincare to achieve the best results. To achieve the best results, one trick that I like would be to use makeup products like a highlighter, moisturizing foundation or products with a slight shimmer base!

3. Will Korean bridal makeup suit all skin tones?

Yes, Korean bridal makeup is versatile enough to suit an array of skin tones ranging from fair to tanned skin. One misconception that many girls have would be that Korean makeup will only look nice on fair-skinned people. However, that is not true as I have had many clients who are tanned. Even in Korea, not everyone is fair-skinned as well.

4. Will Korean bridal makeup suit oily skin people?

Korean bridal makeup can still work on people with oily skin. On areas that are oilier like the T-zone, I usually apply some mattifying products after to combat the shine. In general, you can still achieve a dewy look but with the help of extra products to take away the unwanted shine!

5. What are some of your top favourite Korean makeup and skincare products that you recommend?

For makeup, recently, I have been really enjoying the brand Jung Saem Mool. I like the moisturizing properties in their products to hydrate the skin. For their eyeshadow palettes, the combination of colours is really easy to work with that allow me to create many beautiful eye looks! For skincare, I really like the brand Mediheal for their face masks. Other brands I like include Laneige, belif and innisfree.

Preparation Guide for a Bride's Wedding Makeup and Hair

Here at Autelier, we understand that wedding preparation can be a stressful process with lots of preparation to be done. But not to worry, here are some helpful guidelines to keep in mind to ensure that you will be all ready for our makeup artists to doll you up.

1. HAIR

hair 3.JPG

Hair must be completely dry when our makeup artist arrives for the makeup session. If hair is damp, our makeup artist will require additional time to blow dry your hair resulting in a delay in the completion time.

Furthermore, damp hair is harder to curl, and the curls will not last for long in our humid weather.

It is not recommended to wash your hair in the morning of the actual day. However, if it is a must to wash your hair in the morning, hair should be completely dry upon arrival of our makeup artist.

Lastly, do not use hair conditioner when washing your hair the night before your wedding. Hair products such as hair oil and serums are not recommended to be applied. Drier hair works best for styling purposes!

2. SKIN

Prior to the makeup session, it is recommended to gently exfoliate your skin to reveal a smooth, radiant complexion.

This will also ensure easy absorption of the products layered on your skin afterwards. Follow up with a hydrating face mask to hydrate your skin for the best makeup effect. Remember to wash your face after removing the mask!

To avoid interference with our makeup application, do refrain from applying any sunscreen or moisturiser. Too oily moisturisers will result in your foundation melting faster.

For brides with sensitive skin, do inform our makeup artist in advance. Should you prefer to use your own makeup or skincare products to avoid allergies, you can always have them on hand.

There should be a table surface for our makeup artist to place her cosmetics makeup train case and equipment.

Do also have a desk mirror to check your hair and makeup once it is completed. This will ensure that you will be fully satisfied with your look and if not, refinements can be made.

For optimal lighting conditions, it is advisable for the makeup session to be done under natural lighting. If the room is too dimly lighted, table lamps are highly recommended.

4. MAKEUP TOUCH-UPS

In your cosmetics bag, do prepare either a compact powder or loose powder for touch-ups throughout the day. Especially in Singapore’s hot weather, this will prevent your makeup from shifting around.

We recommend the Innisfree No Sebum Mineral Powder for fuss-free touch-ups and it works really well at mattifying your face. Don’t forget your favourite lipstick as well!

5. ATTIRE

Prior to the makeup session, do change into your appropriate lingerie like Nubra. Bathrobes or open button tops should be worn as well to ensure fuss-free changing into your wedding dress.

6. PREPARATION ON THE NIGHT BEFORE

To ensure that your skin is properly hydrated, it would be good to put on a hydrating sleeping mask for the night. Alternatively, you can also use your night cream according to your preference.

It is also advisable to not drink too much water the night before. This might result in puffy eyes or water retention in the face the morning after. Most importantly, do get as much sleep as possible to be fresh for your big day!

Having these tips in mind will ensure that you look your best on the most important and special day of your life.

With that, we hope that these guidelines have been helpful for you in knowing how you can prepare yourself for your big day. Last but not least, our team at Autelier Makeup would like to wish you a wonderful wedding and a blissful marriage ahead!
